how can i make iron on transfers for hand embroidery?

i am really interested in making my own patterns and want to make iron ons but i can't figure out how its done. i am assuming it can be done with a computer printer but the t-shirt transfer paper wont work for this, so please don't suggest it. any help would be great because this is driving me crazy.

http://dmc.com have transfer paper but not sure if you can print on them.
